AGFA DR14e – Go Digital With Digital Radiography

Your opportunities are endless with DR (digital radiography) because it offers a number of important advantages over traditional X-ray equipment and film processing. Have you been considering making the switch to DR, but are unsure about making a change? A quick look into the benefits of switching to DR may help!

Image Quality:

DR x-ray systems are able to produce excellent quality images. The images are also processed more efficiently. This provides better quality results in less time, a win-win for any veterinary practice.

Return on Investment and Cost:

With no chemicals or film processing to be done, this makes digital radiography a more environmentally-friendly option. This eliminates the recurring cost of processing both film and chemicals. It also frees up the time and money involved in disposing of them once they are used. DR x-ray systems offer a significant return on investment from their upfront cost. This can be highlighted through a number of ways such as, improved consistency, fewer retakes and reduces the time your staff must dedicate in order to process the images.

Lower Patient Dose:

Digital radiology systems offer lower radiation dosage for your patients. Depending on the specifics of your current systems, this reduction in dosage can be very significant. Digital image receptors are far more sensitive to low levels of radiation in comparison to film/screen. This means that they require less quantity to produce a diagnostic radiographic image.

Low Maintenance:

Digital radiology systems have no moving parts. This means that there is less chance of mechanical related wear and tear.

Storage:

Storage of images occurs on servers or PACS such as Vethub, rather than physical archives of hard copies that need to be manually maintained.

Wireless Functionality:

Many of your everyday gadgets and tools are wireless, so why not go wireless with your compatible x-ray equipment as well? User-friendly wireless capabilities allow for portability of the systems themselves. Not only wireless is available but also wired options too. For example, the DR14e from AGFA Healthcare can be configured to either option based on your specific practice needs.

Integration:

DR x-ray technology can be integrated with your existing technology and practice systems. This reduces the stress and possible problems of an upgrade or transition.

There is no question that digital radiography is here to stay. PLH Medical can help your practice get up to speed and utilise the best technology that’s available to you. Contact our helpful and friendly team today!

Streetlife – 5th Annual #BigSleepout19

PLH Medical Ltd is proud to be in partnership with Streetlife’s 5th Annual #Bigsleepout19 on Friday 26th April 2019 & Saturday 27th April 2019. Senior Service Co-Ordinator, Gareth Hugo will be sleeping out to raise awareness at St. Johns Square, Blackpool this weekend! Streetlife is a charity working with vulnerable young people aged 16-25 in Blackpool. Streetlife provides emergency accommodation and a wide range of support from their day center.

This year will be Streetlife’s biggest sleepout to date, which means there will be two sleepouts held over consecutive nights at St. Johns Square, Church Street in Blackpool from 8 pm to 6 am.

Last year Streetlife saw over 250 people from across Lancashire attend this amazing cause. Due to the enormous generosity of the local people, Streetlife raised £41,000 from last year’s Big Sleepout, that’s £13k more than 2017’s event! This money has been used to provide emergency safe accommodation to homeless young people in their Night Shelter at St. Johns Walk in Blackpool town centre.

Please help us make a difference by generously donating £5 or as much as you can afford. £5 a month doesn’t buy much but it offers safety, support and hope to a young vulnerable person. Visit justgiving.com/streetlife and help improve the lives of vulnerable young people.

West Bar Vets: Veterinary hospital enhances its imaging quality with SFS

The Challenge:

West Bar Veterinary Hospital Ltd (West Bar Vets) has invested in new imaging equipment with the help of Siemens Financial Services (SFS). West Bar Vets is a mixed practice veterinary hospital based in Banbury. Now a ten-vet practice with four consulting branches and providing 24hour care, West Bar Vets can trace its origins to the 1880s when it operated as a blacksmith’s shoeing forge.

The practice wanted to replace its ageing veterinary ultrasound machine to improve clinical efficiency and image quality. As a relatively small business, West Bar Vets needed a solution that would protect its capital reserves while enabling the business to stay ahead of the technological curve.

Richard Byrne BVetMed MRCVS, Director and Partner at West Bar Vets explains, “We wanted to upgrade our current ultrasound and looked carefully at a number of systems on the market. We even trialled another machine but ultimately the technology from Siemens Healthineers offered us the best value for money.

The Solution:

After looking at several competitors’ options and testing an upgrade to its current system, West Bar Vets worked with PLH Medical to acquire the Siemens Healthineers ACUSON P500 Ultrasound Solution.

  • The system offers technological advantages to others on the market including increased processing speed and enhanced image quality with exclusive motion correction.
  • Additionally, the ultrasound system is compact and portable and, once installed, it was easy for the practice to wirelessly link the system to its picture archiving and communication system (PACS).

The Benefits:

  • Siemens experience team of ultrasonographers were able to understand the practice’s needs and demonstrate the system’s capabilities in a live simulation.
  • SFS tailored the finance solution to enable it to take advantage of an after sales service five year warranty to ensure peace of mind and a competitive rate.
  • The process of arranging finance for the acquisition was easy and straightforward and the team ensured the arrangement was made in time for West Bar Vets to claim the VAT immediately after the transaction.

Richard Byrne BVetMed MRCVS, Director and Partner at West Bar Vets added, “When purchasing very technical veterinary equipment like radiology or ultrasound, you can easily pay a lot of money for something that is already old. The pace of change is so fast that you have to be vigilant to stay ahead of the curve. We’re really happy with the new system.

Sally-Anne Whybrow of Healthcare Finance for Siemens Financial Services in the UK adds, “It was a pleasure working with West Bar Vets to provide the best possible solution for their practice. An ultrasound is a key piece of diagnostic equipment and this system will make a significant difference for the many pets and their owners that visit the hospital.
